about

Two years have passed since Buraka Som Sistema formally introduced the world to the pulsating rhythm of zouk bass live on Boiler Room. In these two years we’ve witnessed as the Angolan rhythms of kizomba and tarraxo were reinterpreted through global styles like cumbia, moombahton or baile funk – to name only a few – helping develop a musical safe haven for innovative producers from around the world looking for new ways to make tropical music for 21st century clubs.

In this sense, zouk bass has become less of a music genre and more of a gathering of styles that are demanding dancefloors to slow down a bit. In an age when EDM’s credo of ‘harder, faster and stronger’ seems impossible to escape, these artists have successfully opened a new musical chapter with an explosion of warm and colorful 90BPM riddims channeling the sounds of Africa, South America, the Middle East and so on. Kizomba provided a starting point for this revolution inside the Global Club Music movement, now it’s up to these artists to see it through.

Reflecting the incredible variety one can find inside the zouk bass label, ‘We Call It Zouk Bass Volume II’ explores the many different sides of the scene across 8 original songs and 2 tracks from our recent catalogue. From blissful and futuristic kizomba reinterpretations to the heavier, darker and more unpredictable side of the zouk spectrum, artists such as label head Branko, UK up-and-comer Poté and Global Club Music tag team champions JSTJR & Mala Noche give you a 360º view of this exciting movement as the Enchufada artist family keeps growing.
